Children's Books

You may notice a lot of titles in hardcover and only a couple available in paperback. That's because we believe that books are priceless treasures that should last and be enjoyed by subsequent generations. Especially these books - not a single "bad" rat in the bunch!

  • Children's Books - Little Rat
With a little courage and a lot of practice, Little Rat overcomes her fear of sailing. Whether you have pet rats or long for fancy rats of your own, these children's books show the power of facing fears and working hard to achieve goals.

  • Children's Books - Space Station Rat
Jeff is the least popular resident on the space station: the son of scientists, he's the only kid on board, and he always seems to be in the way or getting into trouble. Even Nanny, his creepy robot babysitter, resents him. After a rat damages vital wiring, Nanny is ordered to destroy it, and Jeff is allowed to join the hunt. But Rat isn't just any rat; she's scientifically modified, highly intelligent, and trained to steal information and formulas. Unbeknownst to Jeff, Rat is also an escapee-stowaway posing as Jeff's pen pal to get information and food.

  • Children's Books - Markey And The Rat
Eight-year-old Markey and his sister Missy declare a truce for the Christmas season, as Markey tries to earn money with which to buy presents. With his little rat pal, Markey embarks on a Christmas adventure!

  • Children's Books - Mrs Frisby And The Rats of NIMH
Perhaps the most famous and beloved "rat tale" of all, Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH are here as you remember them in the original award-winning 1974 edition. An enduring lesson in helping and sharing your gifts, and the value of gratitude.

  • Children's Books - Hannibal's Rat
Hannibal's Rat is a fast-moving adventure story centred on a family of mice. An ideal children's book for adults and children to share.

  • Children's Books - The Christmas Rat
Alone in his apartment during Christmas vacation, eleven-year-old Eric finds himself caught in a battle between a strange exterminator and the rat he wants to kill.

  • Children's Books - The Revenge Of Randall Reese-Rat
In one of the great rat themed children's books A Rat's Tale (1999), Montague Mad-Rat saves his vast colony of fellow New York rats from human destruction and wins the heart of the lovely Isabel. In this epic follow-up, Isabel's former suitor, Randal, scorns her marriage. When a horrible fire destroys the newlyweds' home, Randal becomes the prime suspect, and he escapes through the city's parks and sewers, plotting revenge against family and friends who believe him capable of such a crime. His plans to ruin his community are upset when he falls in love with a gorgeous rat who shares his interests; she's the cousin of loathsome Montague.

  • Children's Books - The Tale Of The Swamp Rat
Enthralling among children's books. Guided by an ancient alligator, a silent young rat learns to find his own way in the drought-stricken swamp, despite having been orphaned under circumstances that sometimes cause other animals to reject him.

  • Children's Books - Cinderella's Rat
One of the rats that was turned into a coachman by Cinderella s fairy godmother tells his story from a rat perspective.. Another ending for one of the most famous of children's books.

  • Children's Books - Fatso's Rat
One of several British children's books we offer. A quick (and funny) read about Murdo (Fatso) and his weight problem. Murdo's mom is very worried because he only likes to watch TV with his overweight dad, and the two of them are not at all concerned. She finally decides if they get a dog, it will have to be taken for walks, but at the pet shop, Murdo finds a white rat named Rosie. It is love at first sight, so home they go with the rat. It is only when Murdo loses Rosie in a moving van that he discovers how strong he is when he unloads the van almost single- handedly. Large print and lots of pictures make this ideal for beginner readers.

  • Children's Books - The Lab Rats of Doctor Eclair
Holy super-powered children's books! After a lightning bolt gives three pampered lab rats, Niner, Blobber, and Ramelda, super powers, they join kindhearted Doctor Eclair in his quest to save lab animals the world over by helping him build a prototype mechanical lab rat, dubbed WingNut.

  • Children's Books - Walter: The Story Of A Rat
It's hard to know the main audience for this small, old-fashioned, beautiful chapter book, which is told from the viewpoint of a solitary, literary rat (named after Sir Walter Scott) who lives in the house of an elderly, reclusive children's author, Miss Pomeroy. Kids certainly won't get all the references to classical literature, music, and movies, though they'll probably understand Walter's resentment about the absence of rat heroes (there are plenty of mice heroes, but only rat villains) in children's literature. Quiet and unsentimental, this may appeal to readers slightly older than the target audience and to adults who remember the children's books they loved, including those by Wersba.

  • Children's Books - My Pet Rat
This is a rat care book written for kids, from the perspective of a kid. Practical children's books? Fun too! It's the perfect gift for that young first-time rat lover in your life!

  • Children's Books - Matt the Rat/Raton Mateo
Not only are the Matt The Rat children's books critically acclaimed and wildly popular, they're also bilingual! Whether Spanish is part of the child's culture or an exciting learning experience of its own, Matt The Rat/Raton Mateo is the rat to meet!

  • Children's Books - That Pesky Rat
In this uplifting tale, a needle-nosed rat yearns "to belong to somebody. To be a real pet rat. Most of all I would like to have a name, instead of just that pesky rat." Child (Beware of the Storybook Wolves) sketches her characters in a thick, loose black line, then uses these drawings in high-voltage photo-collages to create some of the most unique children's books.. Her crazy-quilt compositions, which include cutout pictures of furniture and bathroom tiles, patterned fabric and wood-grain wallpaper, suggest a skewed world where a city rat might endear himself to an eccentric fellow; it also helps that the sympathetic title character speaks in the first person.

  • Children's Books - I Was A Rat!
A young boy enters the lives of a couple and says only, " I was a rat." Peculiar rat behaviors and neighbors' speculations lead to trouble.

  • Children's Books - Mike Nelson's Death Rat!
Downsized from his day job with a publisher of obscure journals, Pontius Foeb, the aging author of inaccessible nonfiction books, is desperate for a commercial hit and comes up with a horror tale about a giant rat that terrorized a Minnesota hamlet in the nineteenth century, but when the book is sold as nonfiction, unexpected chaos ensues.
